This week the College Democrats are proud to host Thomas Wolf and Michael Li from the NYU Brennan Center for Justice and Ari Savitzky from the law firm WilmerHale to discuss the role of Congressional redistricting in our political system.
They will center the discussion on the pending Supreme Court case, McCrory v. Harris (in italics of course). Appellants attest the two Congressional districts in question were racially gerrymandered, an unconstitutional act. Appellees in the case attest these districts were results of political gerrymandering, a constitutional reality. How will the court rule? What will this decision mean for the 2020 redistricting process? How does gerrymandering feed into increasing levels of polarization? Join us in Kimmel 909 as our Treasurer, Ryan Trumbauer, hosts a panel discussion on the political battle over Congressional redistricting.
As always, dinner will be served!
